Walk along Singapore River: Statues of Sir Stamford Raffles

Take a walk along the Singapore River, and there is a lot to be experienced. In this post, I shall focus on the two statues of Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of modern Singapore, that stand nearby the Singapore River.

Peer through the leaves of the trees, and you will see a dark, bronze statue of Sir Stamford Raffles. This statue was originally placed at the Padang. It now stands in front of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.

The point where the statue stood is commonly referred to as the Raffles Landing Site. It is believed to be the spot where Sir Stamford Raffles first stepped ashore on the island of Singapore. The white polymarble statue is a replica of the one that now stands outside Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.
